4 Ways that Balzac will Surprise You

1. A Very Canadian History

In true Canadian style, Balzac was designated as a flag station on the CP Rail line. In 1920, the Balzac Trading Company was formed by a group of local farmers and the town was really put on the map when a loading platform was built by the CP Rail. The town’s grain elevator was built in 1925.

The town’s name was chosen by William Cornelius Van Horne, who was president of the Canadian Pacific Railway. He named it after his favourite writer, Honore De Balzac.
